Alignment Tools Needed for Proper Repair

By using alignment tools to fine-tune this attribute of your vehicle, you stand to improve the general handling of your automobile. The alignment of your automobile has to do with the suspension of the wheels & how they are oriented relative to each other & the vehicle. A nice suspension alignment gizmo will help you to identify where your vehicle has come out of alignment, either due to natural wear & tear that happens when you drive the automobile, or because of a fault of the manufacturer. Using a wheel alignment gizmo set, you can dramatically improve the responsiveness of your automobile. In order to do this, however, you'll require having the proper tools at your disposal first.

Camber Gauge
A camber gauge measures the verticality of the cambers in your car, which are a critical part of the vehicle's suspension system. If the cambers are out of alignment, you'll find that certain portions of the tires on your car are not constantly in contact with the ground. A negative camber refers to a situation in which the cambers are oriented so your tires tip slightly inward, while a positive camber misalignment results in the tires splaying outward slightly.
A camber gauge measures the alignment of your cambers, which should ideally be 0 in almost all cases.

Toe Checking Device
The toe of your car refers to a misalignment that causes the tires to rotate at different intervals and speeds. This puts random pressures on the tires that wouldn't otherwise be there, and causes them to wear out at different rates. This can be problematic because the most common way of ensuring tires wear evenly is to rotate them around the four different tire positions on the car at regular intervals. If a single tire or two of the four tires have been damaged more than the others, they put you at an increased risk of a blowout and subsequent accidents or injuries.

A toe-checking gauge can be fashioned out of simple tools at home, or you can purchase a gauging device from a car repair store. In order to set up your own device to check the toe alignment of your car, you'll need two pins you can clip to your tire and a tape measure. This project will require two different people.
Place the first pin at a set height above the ground and clip them to the tire at the front left of your vehicle. Place the second pin at the exact same height and location on the rear left tire. With a friend, measure the distance between the two pins. The two pins should be on the outside face of the tires so they won't be dislodged or disturbed as the tires roll. Drive the car straight forward and allow the front tire to make one full rotation. With your friend, measure the distance between the pins again. If the distance has changed, you may have a misalignment problem.
